About PixWrench
A compact set of image tools that does the work on your own device. Here’s who builds it, why, and how it pays for itself.
Who we are
PixWrench is built and run by Infinity Square Labs Ltd, a small company registered in England and Wales (company number 16880965) with its registered office at 483 Green Lanes, London, N13 4BS, United Kingdom. We make free web tools that are useful, quick and respectful of people’s data. Our sister site PDFMagpie applies the same approach to PDF files.
Why the tools run in your browser
Photos are personal. A picture of your child, a scan of your driving license or a screenshot of a medical form is not something you should have to hand to a stranger’s server just to make it smaller. For a long time that was the price of a quick online tool, because browsers couldn’t do the heavy lifting. That has changed: modern browsers run WebAssembly, so the same open-source codecs that desktop software uses can now run inside a web page.
PixWrench is built around that idea. When you compress a photo, convert an iPhone HEIC file or strip a photo’s location, the work happens in background threads on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no copy for anyone to keep, leak or analyze, and no reason for limits like “20 files a day”. You can check this yourself; our how it works page shows how.
What we care about
- Doing the job properly. Photos come out upright, colors don’t shift, transparent PNGs stay transparent, and target sizes are hit honestly or we tell you they couldn’t be.
- Explaining instead of hiding. Each tool page says what happens to your files and what the settings do, and our guides cite the standards and official documentation they rely on.
- No dark patterns. No sign-up walls, no watermarks, no “premium” download buttons, no QR codes that stop working after a trial.
- Accessibility. Every tool can be used with a keyboard and a screen reader. See our accessibility statement.
How PixWrench is funded
The site is free and paid for by a small number of clearly labeled ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are placed below or beside the content, never inside a tool, beside a drop zone or next to a download button, and never on legal pages. The tools work the same with an ad blocker. We don’t sell data, and because your images never reach us, there is none of yours to sell.
How we decide what to build
We start from the jobs people actually need done: getting a photo under an upload limit, opening iPhone photos on a Windows laptop, making a menu QR code that won’t break, or removing a home address from a picture before posting it. We publish a tool only when it handles the awkward cases (rotated photos, transparency, huge images, odd file names) and when we can explain it honestly. Changes are logged in the changelog.
Get in touch
Questions, bug reports and suggestions are welcome. The contact page has the details. If a tool gets something wrong with one of your files, describe what happened, but please don’t send us the file: we never need to see your images to help.
