How to use it

How to convert SVG to PNG at a specific size

SVG is perfect for logos because it scales without blurring, but plenty of places only take bitmap images: presentation software, email signatures, marketplace listings, some upload forms. Converting to PNG gives you a fixed-size picture that still has a transparent background.

Making icons for a website? The favicon generator builds the full set of sizes from one SVG, and our favicon sizes guide explains which ones browsers use.

  1. 1

    Add SVG files

Drop in one SVG or several. Each one’s natural size is shown from its width, height or viewBox.

  2. 2

    Choose size and background

Pick 1× to 4×, or type an exact width. Keep the background transparent or pick a color.

  3. 3

    Download PNGs

Save each PNG, or all of them in one zip.

What this tool does

  • Output size by scale (1×, 2×, 3× or 4×) or an exact width in pixels
  • Height follows the SVG’s aspect ratio automatically
  • Transparent background or a solid color
  • Size read from the SVG’s width, height or viewBox
  • Rendered by your browser’s own SVG engine, with scripts disabled
  • PNG output optimized losslessly with OxiPNG
  • Batch conversion with a zip download
Worked example

A 120 × 80 logo at each scale

Our test logo has viewBox="0 0 120 80" and no width or height attributes, so its natural size is 120 × 80. The output sizes are straightforward multiplication:

SettingPNG sizePixels
1×120 × 809,600
2×240 × 16038,400
3×360 × 24086,400
4×480 × 320153,600
Width 1000 px1000 × about 667about 667,000

Doubling the scale quadruples the pixel count, which is why a 4× PNG is noticeably heavier than a 1× one even though it looks identical, just bigger.

Under the hood

How your SVG is drawn

PixWrench hands each SVG to your browser’s own SVG engine, loaded the same way a web page shows an SVG in an image element, then copies the drawing into a PNG at the size you chose. OxiPNG then shrinks the PNG losslessly.

Loading SVG as an image switches on the browser’s safety rules, which MDN documents: scripts inside the file don’t run, and images, fonts or stylesheets referenced by external URL aren’t fetched. Anything embedded as a data: URL still works.

Size comes from the root element. Absolute width and height win; otherwise the viewBox supplies the shape. With neither, the tool uses 300 × 150, the fallback that CSS gives replaced content with no size information.

Troubleshooting

Missing text or images in the PNG

If letters come out in the wrong typeface or pictures vanish, the SVG almost certainly points to files elsewhere, such as a web font or a linked bitmap. Those aren’t loaded, by design. Two fixes work in most design apps: convert text to outlines (paths) before exporting, or embed fonts and images inside the SVG as data URLs. Then the file is self-contained and renders the same everywhere.

Which scale should you pick?

Use 1× when the PNG will be shown at the SVG’s natural size on an ordinary screen. Pick 2× or 3× for high-density screens, where one CSS pixel spans several device pixels, so edges stay sharp. Use an exact width when a form or template names a size. For print, our DPI versus pixels guide helps you work out how many pixels you need.

Limits

Good to know

  • A PNG has a fixed size. Keep the SVG as your master file and export again whenever you need a different size.
  • Linked fonts and images don’t load; embed them or convert text to paths first.
  • Scripts don’t run, and an animated SVG is captured as a single still frame.
  • Very large widths create very large images. To scale an existing PNG instead, use the image resizer.

What happens to your files

Processed on your device. Your photos are never uploaded. PixWrench’s code runs on your device. We don’t receive your files, file names or their contents.

Your SVG files are read and rasterized inside this tab, and the PNGs are written on your device. Because scripts are disabled and external links aren’t fetched while rendering, opening an SVG here doesn’t make it contact any server either. Your scale and background settings are remembered in local storage; the files are not.

The page itself loads ad and analytics scripts, which are independent of the converter and covered in our privacy policy.

FAQ

Questions people ask

How do I convert SVG to PNG with a transparent background?

Leave the background set to transparent. Areas the SVG doesn’t paint stay see-through in the PNG.

How do I export an SVG at a higher resolution?

Choose 2×, 3× or 4×, or type an exact width. The vector is redrawn at that size, so edges stay crisp.

Why is the text in my PNG in the wrong font?

The SVG links to a font file that isn’t loaded during conversion. Embed the font or convert text to outlines.

My SVG has no width or height. What size will the PNG be?

The viewBox decides. A viewBox of 0 0 120 80 gives 120 × 80 at 1×. With no size information at all, 300 × 150 is used.

Can I convert several SVGs at once?

Yes. Add them together and download the PNGs in one zip.
